Uber and Bolt fleet accounts in Kenya: how they work, and fleet account vs daily amount

How Uber’s Supplier Portal and Bolt’s Fleet Portal work for car owners — adding cars and drivers, who gets paid — and whether a fleet account or a daily amount suits your cars.

There are two ways to run cars on Uber and Bolt in Kenya, and they put the money in opposite hands.

  • Daily amount (the common way): the driver signs up on his own account, the platform pays him, and he pays you an agreed amount for each working day.
  • Fleet account: you register as a fleet partner, put the cars and drivers under your account, the platform pays you, and you pay the driver.

Both work. Which suits you depends on how much of the business you want to run yourself.

How an Uber fleet account works

Uber's fleet tool is the Supplier Portal, now renamed FleetHub, at fleethub.uber.com.

Adding a car: open Vehicles, choose Add vehicle, enter the number plate, pick the vehicle and upload every document marked required — the same papers as any Uber car: logbook, PSV insurance and inspection. There is no limit to how many cars a fleet can have. See the full vehicle requirements.

Adding a driver: open Drivers, choose Add driver, and enter his phone number and name. A driver already on Uber gets an invite in his Driver app, by SMS or email, and must accept before he can drive for your fleet.

Who gets paid: Uber pays the fleet owner. Uber's own help pages are plain about it: drivers working for a fleet manager receive their payments from the fleet manager, not from Uber. The portal's Payments and Reports tabs show what every car and driver earned, what was transferred to your bank account — and the cash trips, which the driver collected in hand and Uber deducts from your balance.

How a Bolt fleet account works

Bolt's equivalent is the Fleet Portal. Once you register as a Bolt partner and sign the contract, Bolt activates the account and sends your login. From the portal you:

  • add and activate drivers and cars,
  • see weekly and daily reports of completed rides and payouts,
  • view rider and Bolt invoices.

Bolt's general list of fleet-owner documents is an ID, a certificate of incorporation, a VAT certificate, a taxi licence and bank details on letterhead — Bolt Kenya may ask for its own set, so confirm when you register.

A fleet account suits an owner who wants control and full visibility and is ready to run payroll. A daily amount suits an owner who wants a predictable income and does not want to run the operation — which is why it is the most common arrangement in Nairobi. Its weak point is the chasing: knowing which car has paid today, and catching a short day before it becomes a short week.

What drivers earn — a sanity check for either model

Bolt publishes a median for Kenyan drivers on its driver page: KSh 16,043 a week, the median for drivers in Kenya in June 2026. Many drivers run more than one app. Whatever model you use, check that the deal leaves the driver a living on an average week — the daily amount calculator does it in a minute.

If you take a daily amount

That is what Gariboss was built for: every evening it shows which car has paid, which is short and which has stopped; it reminds the driver for you; and the money goes straight to your own till.

Questions owners ask

How do I become an Uber fleet partner in Kenya?

Register as a fleet partner with Uber, then use the Supplier Portal, now FleetHub (fleethub.uber.com), to add vehicles — number plate, vehicle and required documents — and to add drivers by phone number. A driver already on Uber must accept your invite in his Driver app before he can drive for your fleet.

On an Uber fleet account, who gets paid?

The fleet owner. Uber pays the fleet partner, and drivers working for a fleet are paid by the fleet manager, not by Uber. Cash trips collected by drivers are deducted from the fleet’s balance.

How much do Bolt drivers earn in Kenya?

Bolt’s Kenya driver page gives a median of KSh 16,043 a week for June 2026, based on drivers’ income in Kenya that month. Earnings vary with hours, location and demand.
